Deuce Cities Henhouse

I have always envisioned our cabin furniture being updated in phases, to get us started, we purchased affordable "get-cha-through" furniture and repurposed hand-me-downs from our home. It has always been a work in progress and I had planned on updating some of our cabin furniture pieces with comfier, cozier and more substantial long-term items as we advanced in our cabin ownership. We just recently hit two years of enjoying our cabin, and we had gotten to know our cabin well enough that it was easy to point out what needed improvement, and what we were missing in terms of how we used the space and what we were expecting out of furniture... The Side Garden

CSA Recipe : Radish & Turnip Salad

I'm so excited that it's CSA season again! We just received our first box from the South West Wisconsin farm, Driftless Organics, last week. Our fridge is overflowing with greens - I could just sit and stare at it all day. I wouldn't though, that would be crazy, but it ...

Threshold Bryant Chair Painted White

New White Outdoor Chairs

A few weeks ago I picked up a couple of Bryant chairs from the Threshold collection at Target. Do they seem familiar to you at all? I kind of think they are a total knock off of the Loll Designs Lollygagger line, which is a little dissful of Target, especially ...

Using natural ground cover as mulch and garden edging

Vegetable Gardens Need Love Too.

Budz! You may remember a few weeks ago when the kid and I built an addition to our raised bed garden scene. The seedlings are all starting to grow and the new raised bed garden is coming along nicely. However, the raised bed gardens on the side of my house ...

Hi! I’m Alison Allen

I started Deuce Cities Henhouse in 2009 – a blog about fixing up and restoring my 110-year-old Minneapolis home and updating our worn out and out, dated Wisconsin cabin. My family and I (my husband and two boys) moved into our current home nearly ten years ago, and since then I’ve been chronicling my journey of owning, renovating, decorating and DIY-ing our home.

I’m passionate about empowering women to take on projects that they might have normally not had the confidence to do, incorporating modern design and aesthetic into my home, thoughtful design solutions, and landscaping. I’ve done it all, from easy do-it-yourself home improvement projects to full on renovations and remodels.
