Deuce Cities Henhouse

Being that it's the last day in January, I wanted to squeeze in a post about my plans for an upcoming organizational project. I know you have all heard of "spring cleaning" but honestly, what gets me through the middle and end of winter are indoor organizational projects. For me it helps to combat some of the SAD feelings and gives me some control - I can't control the weather, but I can make my environment work for me... READ MORE

Getting Kids Involved in Gardening

Whazzup guys? I didn't really plan on taking a week off, but then I guess I wasn't really being realistic either. The kids are on spring break this week, plus I've been babysitting one of their little pals. I am ready for them all to be back in school, I ...

Hi! I’m Alison Allen

I started Deuce Cities Henhouse in 2009 – a blog about fixing up and restoring my 110-year-old Minneapolis home and updating our worn out and out, dated Wisconsin cabin. My family and I (my husband and two boys) moved into our current home nearly ten years ago, and since then I’ve been chronicling my journey of owning, renovating, decorating and DIY-ing our home.

I’m passionate about empowering women to take on projects that they might have normally not had the confidence to do, incorporating modern design and aesthetic into my home, thoughtful design solutions, and landscaping. I’ve done it all, from easy do-it-yourself home improvement projects to full on renovations and remodels.
