Modernizing the Medicine Cabinet

It’s has always been my goal to reuse what I can when I can. I surprised myself when I realized that the mirror I had envisioned for the cabin bathroom was sitting right in front of me. When I was mocking up ideas and plans for the cabin bathroom I was drawn to this wall black beveled wall mounted mirror or this brass medicine cabinet as options for our cabin bathroom. I like the soft curved beveled edges for both, and I thought they would both look great in our bathroom... READ MORE

Not Scary Stairs

Garden Beds, Man. They’re Never Done!

The thing I love about gardening is that it's never done, at least for me. It's always a work in progress and I'm always striving for that perfect flower bed. I've always had a tenuous relationship with our front foundation garden bed. There are two big reasons that it's not ...

Tidy It Up : The Music Room

Hey Guys! How’s it going? As promised, I’m sharing a bit more with you guys about my mission to tidy up this house. By tidy I don’t mean “clean.” I mean go through everything, determine what can stay and what goes, and finding a permanent spot for every item/object/thing. My ...

Feeling Unsettled

Hey Guys. This blog is first and foremost a journal, (here I am Scoops Howser M.D) always has been, always will be. Because of that I feel compelled to be honest and I feel it is natural to share this here. This isn't a fun post to write, but I ...

Hi! I’m Alison Allen

I started Deuce Cities Henhouse in 2009 – a blog about fixing up and restoring my 110-year-old Minneapolis home and updating our worn out and out, dated Wisconsin cabin. My family and I (my husband and two boys) moved into our current home nearly ten years ago, and since then I’ve been chronicling my journey of owning, renovating, decorating and DIY-ing our home.

I’m passionate about empowering women to take on projects that they might have normally not had the confidence to do, incorporating modern design and aesthetic into my home, thoughtful design solutions, and landscaping. I’ve done it all, from easy do-it-yourself home improvement projects to full on renovations and remodels.
