Deuce Cities Henhouse

After getting super excited and wanting to dive right into the bathroom facelift that I wrote about last week, I realized I needed to slow my roll and pull in the reigns. I had other projects that I had started and hadn’t finished yet, and before I could allow myself to jump into another, I needed to tie up some loose ends on a few that had been left blowing in the wind. DIY Pendant Lamp

Budz, I kinda like this new quick post method. Way less stressful for yours truly. There is so much stuff that I always want to share, but the pressure of the internet makes me feel like I should always present to you via some big, bad, epic post. How 'bout ...
Glassware Niche

It’s a Niche.

Hey Guys! I think I'm going to do a lot more quick brief posts since my new kid schleppin' schedule isn't allowing me tons of time for the long winded, in depth kinda posts that I like to do. Having less time means coming up with new ways of making ...
Creating a vintage/modern/industrial bathroom

Bathroom Plan

Welp, it's 2016 and as mentioned over and over again, it's time to start the basement bathroom project. As of right now, the basement has roughed in plumbing, cement board, dry wall, a newly poured concrete floor, and rough electrical. It is a blank slate and I'm super stoked to ...
Awesome Basement in Minneapolis

Bench Cushion – Crushed It.

Okay pals! I'm getting so close to finishing up the basement, like almost, nearly, kinda there! I just got to cross a big sucker off the list, which only leaves me with a few easy tasks. I upholstered a piece of peach foam with some of my favorite fabric, and ...

Things that I did Last Year.

Friends! Can I just start by saying that I am feeling stoked to get back in the swing of things! I already love 2016, it just feels right. It was nice to have a bit of a break from house stuff the last few weeks, and now that the basement ...
Shark! Shark! Shark! Shark!

Shark! Shark! Shark! Shark!

Guys! New Year's Day is officially my favorite holiday. This January 1st was especially awesome because Jeff hopped in frozen Lake Minnetonka for the 10th year, being the first of our group to achieve the enviable SHARK status! As he exited the frigid waters, he was draped in the coveted ...
Hi.

Hi.

Hello, I suck at selfies, thus my weird pissed off looking floating head. Just wanted to drop in and say "hey". Life has been crazy lately, as it is this time of year. Last week was my 34th birthday and I spent all weekend celebrating, because I like birthdays. My ...

Hi! I’m Alison Allen

I started Deuce Cities Henhouse in 2009 – a blog about fixing up and restoring my 110-year-old Minneapolis home and updating our worn out and out, dated Wisconsin cabin. My family and I (my husband and two boys) moved into our current home nearly ten years ago, and since then I’ve been chronicling my journey of owning, renovating, decorating and DIY-ing our home.

I’m passionate about empowering women to take on projects that they might have normally not had the confidence to do, incorporating modern design and aesthetic into my home, thoughtful design solutions, and landscaping. I’ve done it all, from easy do-it-yourself home improvement projects to full on renovations and remodels.
